Israel will initially give a fourth dose of the Corona vaccine only to people with immunodeficiency. An expert panel had recommended that people over 60 and medical personnel be vaccinated for the fourth time, in addition to the immunocompromised, in light of the rapid spread of the Omikron variant. Nachman Asch, director general of the Ministry of Health, said he was not yet convinced that this was already necessary. However, he said, they are re-evaluating every day how to proceed.
An Israeli hospital had begun a study Monday on the fourth vaccination against the corona virus. Israel has already passed the fourth Corona wave, but recently the infection numbers have risen massively again.
Today, the number of registered Corona cases rose to more than 4,000 for the first time since September, but the number of serious cases remained below 100. Only about 60 percent of the 9.4 million Israelis are still considered fully vaccinated. These are twice-vaccinated people up to six months after their second vaccination and people with booster vaccinations. Thirty-one percent of the population has not been vaccinated at all, and for nine percent the validity of the vaccination has already expired.
