Warmest New Year’s Eve Day: 18.3 degrees recorded

December 31, 2021 goes down in history as the warmest New Year’s Eve day since records began. The highest value reached Berndorf (district Baden) with 18.3 degrees, according to the ORF weather department.

Just behind Berndorf, 18 degrees were measured in Reichenau an der Rax (district of Neunkirchen). In Wiener Neustadt, it was 17.8. But further west, it was similarly warm: in Krems, the maximum value on Friday afternoon was 17.3 degrees.

Such values have never been measured on a New Year’s Eve day in Austria, according to the ORF weather department. Of the nine places with the highest temperatures, six are in Lower Austria. In Pottschach (district Neunkirchen) it had 17.1 degrees, in Gumpoldskirchen (district Mödling) 16.9 degrees were measured.

New Year’s Day also unusually warm
The remaining three places are in Burgenland: Mattersburg with 17.3, Eisenstadt with 17 and Neusiedl am See with 16.8 degrees. It has also been colder at the New Year’s Eve swim in Altenwörth (Tulln district). On Friday afternoon, it was around 15 degrees there.

It will remain unusually warm on New Year’s Day: In Lower Austria, up to 16 degrees are possible.
