In memory of the biblical Three Wise Men who worshipped the Infant Jesus by bringing him gold, frankincense and myrrh, and according to an old tradition, children dress up as the Three Wise Men and move from house to house after Christmas, announcing The Gospel message.
The Carol Singing Campaign is organized by Jungschar/the Catholic Children’s Movement. Austria is one of the richest countries in the world. Being aware of the responsibility this entails, the Carol Singers ask people for donations as a sign of solidarity. The engagement of the little queens and kings is multiplied in about 500 carol singing projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Supported by aid of the carol singing campaign the vicious cycle of poverty and exploitation can be breached.
Though we were under the corona Pandemic in 2021, still Austrian citizens have given exactly 13,04 million Euro to the carol singers of the Catholic Children’s Movement. This fantastic result is due to 85.000 children and more than 30.000 (young) adults in the parishes and a donation-friendly Austrian population.
„The projects of DKA Austria aim to reach structural changes to free disadvantaged people from unfair entanglements. And for this I want to thank. My very special thanks go to the children, who go from house to house and who accept some effort. They proclaim season’s greetings from the love of God, which move hearts to share for a life in dignity and justice,” the Archbishop of Vienna announced during the opening of the carol singing campaign.
Katholische Jungschar official said that the movement support projects with the aim to improve effectively the living conditions of the people and educational chances of children irrespective of their religion, origin or color. “The donations we get from the Christmas Caroling will actively support people in need in developing countries. The money we collect is used for 500 projects committed to education, medical supplies, securing food and clean drinking water, and strengthening human rights,” the official added.
