In the future, people will no longer need to carry paper or plastic IDs with them; an APP on their smartphone will suffice. That’s the idea behind the digital ID platform. “The first digital ID card to be implemented will be the digital driver’s license, with others such as the student ID card and vehicle registration to follow,” said Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP) from the Ministry for Digitalization and Economic Location.
The so-called “digital driver’s license” will be introduced in the spring. “It is not a replacement for the existing documents, but a supplement by storing them on the smartphone so that the original document does not have to be carried,” clarifies ÖAMTC lawyer Martin Hoffer. The driver’s license on the cell phone costs nothing. The prerequisite is the so-called eID, which is also the basis for the electronic passport.
Short-stay parking zone in Vienna
From March 1, almost the entire urban area of Vienna will be a short-stay parking zone. The validity period and the parking duration will be standardized and thus also in the existing short-stay parking zones will be set at two hours from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.. “The fees will remain the same, but for many, the Parkpickerl will become more expensive. Commuters will have very few opportunities to park their vehicles on public property for longer than two hours,” warns Hoffer.
