Vienna will discuss the current Corona situation on Thursday, a spokesman for Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) told APA on Wednesday.
City Health Councillor Peter Hacker also harshly criticized the federal government’s actions – which has announced the relaxation of quarantine rules and the reduction of tests – at the club meeting of the Vienna SPÖ.
“I am speechless at the moment and also a bit stunned how an experiment is being carried out here on more than eight million Austrians,” Hacker said on Wednesday afternoon. For example, he said it is still wholly open how the test system can be continued.
At tomorrow’s deliberations, Vienna could again decide on its preventive measures. This was already indicated by Mayor Ludwig yesterday, Tuesday. Tomorrow’s consultations with experts will take place in the midday hours. In the afternoon, there will probably be a press statement by Ludwig.
One can only watch in amazement what is happening; Hacker referred to the peak figures for infections, an “inconceivable” number of sick people in hospital and ten to 15 percent staff shortages Austria-wide in the hospital, nursing, or school sectors.
Future of Corona tests in Vienna open
Vienna will now discuss how to proceed. One can be sure that Vienna will continue to tread a cautious path, the department head promised. However, he assured that the testing will continue still completely open. He had no idea how the new “rules of the game” would be administered, and he had not yet received an answer from the federal government.
