“Just in time for the beginning of the meteorological summer on June 1, summer temperatures are in sight again in many places,” says Manfred Spatzierer, the Austrian Severe Weather Center chief meteorologist.

In the second half of the week, temperatures will rise more, especially in the south and east; peaks around 30 degrees are also emerging. However, the weather remains unstable, and in the increasingly muggy air, regionally strong thunderstorms, including the risk of thunderstorms, are on the horizon.

Today, Monday, the sun will shine at times in the east, in the Danube region, and at Lake Constance. In the Alps, however, clouds will predominate, and especially in the second half of the day, some rain showers will fall from the main ridge of the Tyrol to Upper Styria. With 14 to 22 degrees, the air will slowly warm up again.

Tuesday will also offer a few hours of sunshine, especially north and east. From Vorarlberg to Styria, some clouds will pass through, and from noon on, the first rain showers will fall in the mountains. Towards evening, it will become increasingly wet and thundery in places on the northern side of the Alps from the west, but it will remain predominantly dry in the south. Highs will range from 18 to 26 degrees from west to east.

The sun will frequently appear on Wednesday, especially in the lowlands and hills. However, the clouds from the west will become denser during the day, and spring clouds will form over the mountains. In the second half of the day, showers and local thunderstorms will spread from Vorarlberg to Upper Austria, remaining predominantly dry in the southern basins and the eastern lowlands. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 20 to 28 degrees.

Thursday will start with residual clouds in some areas, on the northern side of the Alps and in the northeast, also with isolated showers. In the morning, the sun will appear, but afterward, rain showers and partly heavy thunderstorms will form again, with a local risk of storms and hail. Temperatures will rise to between 22 and 30 degrees.

On Friday and the weekend, the summery but unsettled weather will continue. In the west and north, temperatures slowly go downhill again at the weekend. It will be humid and summery hot in the south and east, but there is also a threat of heavy thunderstorms.
