From Monday to Tuesday, 10,189 new infections were registered in Austria. This is below the 7-day average of 10,274 infections. The 7-day incidence is up slightly to 807.94, compared to 9,831 new cases within 24 hours a week.

This brings the number of active Corona cases to 114,637, with 89,059 new PCR tests done in the past 24 hours. This results in a positive rate of 11.44 percent.

There are also 16 new deaths. This means that 18,900 people have died in connection with SARS-CoV-2 infection across Austria.

The hospital is treating 1,123 patients, 20 more than the day before. Fifty-six people are currently being cared for in the intensive care unit. This number decreased by one patient yesterday and has remained the same for one week.

Comparison to the previous year
The fact that Austria is being hit by a Corona wave this summer is shown by a comparison with the figures from a year ago. On July 12, 2021, there were significantly fewer new infections.

At that time, only 192 new infections were registered within one day, and only one-tenth of the patients were in hospitals then than is the case now. There were 103 covid patients precisely one year ago, of which only 35 were seriously ill. The seven-day incidence was also 141 at the time; now, it is 800.8 cases per 100,000 population.

Vaccination continues to be slow, with 1,736 stings against Covid-19 conducted Monday. Only 97 were first-time stings, 158 were second-time stings, and 1,481 were third-time stings. According to E-vaccination data, 6.8 million people (76.1 percent of the population) have already received at least one vaccination. 5.4 million people, and thus only 60.8 percent of Austrians, still have proper vaccination protection. The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) remains highest in Burgenland, at 68.9 percent. In Lower Austria, 64.5 percent of the population have valid vaccination protection, and in Styria, 62.1 percent. After Vienna (59.2), Tyrol (58.7), Carinthia (57.7), Vorarlberg (57.4), and Salzburg (56.5), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 56.1 percent.
