The weekend weather will be quite wintry in Austria, according to Thursday’s Geosphere Austria weather service forecast. In the eastern lowlands and on the southern side of the Alps, it will remain dry in many places except for a few snowflakes. In the morning, it will be minus nine to minus one degree; in the day, at most, it will be minus three to plus three degrees.
Also, some snowfall is expected on Saturday in many regions. On the other hand, the south will be under the influence of a northerly foehn, which will make the weather slightly favourable, but even there, it will only clear up at times. The wind will be moderate to brisk on the eastern edge of the Alps and in foehn corridors, sometimes intense. Early temperatures will be minus nine to zero degrees, and daytime highs will be minus three to plus four degrees.
On Sunday, it will snow again and again on the north side of the Alps, in the congested areas between Bregenzerwald and Mostviertel also heavily. On the south side of the Alps, it will remain rainless during the day but mostly cloudy. Another disturbance zone with light snowfall will reach the east in the afternoon. Initially, there will be a brisk northwesterly wind at the eastern edge of the Alps. At the beginning of the day, minus ten to minus one degree and later minus two to plus three degrees are expected.
Monday will again be cloudy, with a few hours of sunshine in the west and the north. It will snow widely south of the main Alpine ridge; towards evening, the precipitation intensity should increase somewhat between Lower Carinthia and Southern Styria. On the eastern edge of the Alps, a brisk north wind will blow; on the southern flanks of the main Alpine ridge, it will be foehn. After minus ten to minus one degree in the morning, the thermometer will climb to minus two to plus four degrees.
On Tuesday, low-lying clouds with persistently cold air will spread in the north. A few snowflakes are possible. In the west, it will be sunny. In the south, residual disturbances with some sleet will persist with regionally varying snowfall limits between 400 and 1000 meters. The early temperatures will range from minus nine to zero degrees, and the daily highs will be from zero to plus five degrees.
