The fraudulent emails with the subject “Final warning! You will receive a tax refund” or “[Reminder] Your tax refund is ready!” contain the information that the recipients will receive a 578.99 euro tax refund and should disclose their data for this purpose. The BMF continuously warns against this scam.

Example of such a phishing mail:

Emails are FAKE
The subject line could also read, “[Reminder] Your tax refund is ready!”. The hyperlink included leads to a fake FinanzOnline-style website that asks for personal information such as IBAN. The BMF emphasizes that this is an Internet fraud attempt and that the emails sent are forgeries.

Information from the BMF is always in the form of notices and is delivered by mail or to the FinanzOnline Databox. The BMF never asks citizens to transmit personal data such as passwords, credit card data or account information.

Therefore, if you receive such a phishing email or an email with similar content, it is very likely an Internet fraud attempt.

What you must do

➤ The BMF recommends deleting such emails immediately!
