There are many reasons why putting on your sneakers in the morning is worthwhile instead of turning over again in bed with pleasure. For one thing, it boosts circulation because exercise makes the blood circulate faster. It also supports the essential tasks of many hormones that catapult the body from its nocturnal resting state into the active rhythm of the day. Early morning exercise not only wakes you up faster but also helps you fall asleep and stay asleep at the end of the day. This is followed by more intensive sleep, which brings more relaxation to the body.

Another plus favors early morning sports: it stimulates the metabolism because energy is needed. You usually won’t have time to eat a hearty breakfast before exercising. With an empty stomach, the morning workout lets excess pounds tumble. This is because the glycogen stores have emptied considerably during the night, as no new food has been consumed. However, the remaining glycogen stores are quickly depleted, so fat reserves are resorted.

Sports experts recommend optimal training in the morning to take in small amounts of glucose before the start so as not to overtax the body in the worst case. A glass of apple spritzer or a banana is sufficient to prevent the glycogen stores from being exhausted at the sport’s start and the metabolism from rushing to break down amino acids after burning fats. As essential components of proteins, these amino acids maintain the muscles and the immune system. However, if they are broken down too much, these and other vital body functions would be weakened.

Early morning exercise in the fresh air also improves the oxygen supply to the body, which is pumped more quickly to the critical organs by increased blood circulation. It also releases important hormones essential for brain function and precursors for mental effectiveness and creativity.
By the way, the early morning focus on physical exercise and perhaps on the beautiful surroundings in nature helps to distract oneself from unpleasant thoughts and to arm oneself against stressful situations – the best prerequisite for an active and relaxed day!
