The past February was mild but accompanied by gloomy weather. Snow and frost were largely absent in the lowlands, but a high pollen count caused discomfort. How does this weather situation affect the outlook for March?
Greetings from North Africa
The Italian low-pressure system YUE is moving away, and the high-pressure system IVO is bringing temporary dry weather. However, Saharan dust is still in the air and could cause cloudy, sunny spells. Temperatures will range between 8 and 18 degrees – a foretaste of spring.
Weekend at a glance: Italian Low announces itself
The next Italian low is approaching towards the weekend, accompanied by rain and snow. The snow line will vary between 1000 and 1600 meters. The Föhn will play a decisive role and could split the weekend.
Föhn makes a difference
While clouds with precipitation will continue to dominate south of the disruptive low, the north could benefit from hours of sunshine with a strong southerly wind. On the other hand, regions from the Silvretta to Upper Carinthia will remain cloudy with highs around 0 to 6 degrees, while other parts will reach up to 18 degrees.
Weather change in sight: Hope for cooler air?
The first week of March promises a possible change in the weather. Weak weather fronts from the west could pass by, but according to current forecasts, a massive area of high pressure could spread from Russia to Central Europe. This could bring cooler air to our region, although small-scale highs could still influence developments. The exact development remains exciting and remains to be seen.
