A repair fair will be held in Vienna for the first time in mid-May. In addition, the repair voucher with a 100-euro subsidy will start again on 21 May.
On 17 and 18 May, sustainability, conscious consumption and the responsible use of resources will be the focus at Vienna’s Museumsquartier. This is because the ‘repair: fair Vienna’ is taking place for the first time.
The repair fair is intended to show that things can be repaired and do not always have to be immediately replaced by a new product. Interested parties can get advice from repair companies, participate in clothes swap parties or buy second-hand and upcycling products at favourable prices. Admission is free.
Event highlights include free repair checks for bicycles, textiles, small electrical appliances and lamps. A supporting programme will also consist of music, information stands, craft workshops for children and a competition.
Small repairs can be carried out directly on-site. If the damage is more serious, visitors will receive advice on whether a repair is worthwhile and where they can obtain one. Cheap and good second-hand electrical appliances can also be purchased on-site.
From May 21, the motto will be ‘Reuse instead of throwing away’. On this day, the new edition of the successful Viennese repair voucher will be launched. The voucher covers 50 percent of the gross repair costs up to 100 euros and cost estimates up to 55 euros.
‘Download and repair – it’s only that easy with the Vienna Repair Voucher. It helps our local economy and the Viennese and benefits the environment. Reusing instead of throwing away is a trend that we as a city support and promote,’ says Climate Councillor Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ). The Vienna Repair Voucher is organised by the City of Vienna’s Environmental Protection Department.
The Vienna Repair Voucher will be available for download on 21 May. After registering or logging in on the website, the Vienna Repair Voucher can be downloaded and redeemed immediately when the repair is ordered.
50 percent of the gross repair costs are covered, up to a maximum subsidy of 100 euros. If a repair is no longer worthwhile, the Vienna Repair Voucher will cover the cost estimates incurred up to 55 euros. The subsidy is deducted from the invoice amount immediately upon payment.
The voucher has an expiration date by which the item’s repair must be ordered. Redeem the voucher directly when placing the order; the repair must not be completed yet. Electrical appliances are excluded from the subsidy in this reissue of the Vienna repair voucher because they are covered by the federal government’s repair bonus.
