May is showing its moody side this year. Especially in the south of Austria, it has already rained more than usual. The week will be characterized by alternating sunny spells and thundery showers. Here are the details:
Tuesday: Rain in the west, sun in the southeast
Tuesday will start dry and occasionally sunny in the Weinviertel and southern Styria. However, it will already be cloudy in the rest of the country, with showers intensifying from the morning onward. In the course of the day, showers and thunderstorms will also spread to the initially dry regions in the east and southeast. From Innsbruck westwards, it will clear up again in the afternoon. A brisk westerly wind will blow, especially in the Danube region and on the eastern edge of the Alps. Highs between 13 degrees in the west and 25 degrees in the southeast.
Wednesday: Friendly mix of sun and clouds
On Wednesday, isolated showers will initially continue in the east and southeast. During the course of the day, however, a friendly mix of sun and clouds will dominate across most of the country. There will be slightly more clouds in the eastern mountains, and in the evening, the clouds will also increase in the west, increasing the tendency to shower. The wind will be mostly weak to moderate, initially still brisk from the northwest to the east. Temperatures will reach highs between 18 and 24 degrees, with the warmest temperatures in the Inn Valley.
Thursday: More rain again in the west
Thursday begins with more changeable weather again under the increasing influence of low pressure. From Vorarlberg via Upper Carinthia to Upper Austria, the day will sometimes start cloudy and wet. It will initially remain dry and friendly in the rest of the country. As the day progresses, however, it will become more unsettled towards the east, and thunderstorms may develop in the southeast. The wind from westerly directions will be mostly weak to moderate and brisk at Lake Constance. Temperatures will rise from west to east to between 14 and 24 degrees.
Friday and outlook for the weekend: More rainfall
On Friday, a low-pressure system over Italy will bring intermittent rain, which may be heavier in the south. As things stand, the weekend will also be changeable, with further showers, thunderstorms, and sunny spells. Temperatures will remain relatively unchanged.
