At the beginning of the week, the influence of an intermediate high weakens. A warm front from the low-pressure system known as DAGMAR, whose center is located over the English Channel (between Great Britain and France), will initially only bring a few patches of cloud to the west and northwest of Austria. There will be no rain for the time being. On Tuesday, the widening front of the low pressure system will cause occasional rain in western Austria. From Wednesday, the weather will be determined by an Italian low moving in from the south, bringing heavy rain and cool temperatures slightly below the seasonal average.
Tuesday: Sun in the east, rain in the west
On Tuesday, the sun will shine at times in the Alpine region and in the east and south of the country. The weather there will remain mainly dry. From Lake Constance to the Innviertel (Upper Austria) and Mühlviertel, however, there will be dense clouds in the morning. As the day progresses, the rain will spread from the west. A moderate southeasterly wind will blow in the east, while in the rest of the country the wind will be negligible. Temperatures will remain similar to the previous day, ranging between 12 and 19 degrees, with the higher temperatures expected in the east this time.
Wednesday: Cloudy and wet
Wednesday will be mostly cloudy and rainy. Heavy rain is to be expected, especially in the south of the country. Drier spells are most likely in the Danube region and the eastern lowlands in the morning hours, while brief sunny spells are possible in the afternoon, especially in the Rhine and Inn valleys (Vorarlberg and Tyrol). However, the clouds will remain dense in most regions. With weak to moderate winds from southerly directions, maximum temperatures will be between 11 and 17 degrees Celsius.
Thursday: Cloudy and wet, sunny spells in the south
On Thursday, it will remain mainly cloudy with intermittent rain along the northern side of the Alps and in the north-east of the country. Only in Carinthia and southern Burgenland (south-eastern Austria) will there be occasional sunny spells. Towards evening, however, the clouds will increase there too and rain will set in again. The wind will shift to the north to northwest and will be mostly moderate, with some brisk winds in the east. Temperatures will reach highs between 10 and 18 degrees from northwest to southeast.
