Wiener Linien is working on the U4 again. The last construction work was only a month ago and now new work is being carried out. However, the restrictions are much less severe than in the summer, when the line could not run continuously.

Specifically, Wiener Linien is renewing the turning facility in Heiligenstadt. Originally, it was said that trains would therefore not be able to run to the terminus but only to the Spittelau station in front of it. However, this was obviously prevented. Instead, according to Wiener Linien, the trains will only run at “extended intervals”, i.e. at longer intervals. The restriction will last from October 7 to 30.

Every second train only to Schwedenplatz
However, the construction work for this year is not over yet. In November and December, Wiener Linien will be renovating the underground bridge over the Alserbach. It dates back to the time of architect Otto Wagner, who designed several stations on the U4 and U6 lines. Due to this construction work, only every second train coming from Hütteldorf will run to Heiligenstadt from November 4. Half of them will turn around at Schwedenplatz station.

Wiener Linien has been renovating the U4 for almost ten years. Parts of the infrastructure are more than 100 years old. But the end is in sight. Next year, tunnel girders and platforms will be renovated, cables will be relocated and waterproofing work will be carried out. After that, it should be over for the time being. (red.)
