The weather in Austria will show a different side in the coming days. While dense fog persists in some regions of Austria, the Föhn wind will ensure sunny and mild conditions in other areas. In our detailed preview, find out what the next 14 days have to offer regarding the weather.
High-pressure area “WERNER” brings more stable conditions
This week, the high-pressure area “WERNER” will have a decisive influence on the weather in Austria. Its arrival will bring typical autumn weather, although this will vary greatly from region to region. Particularly noticeable: while it will remain cool and cloudy in some parts of the country, the Föhn wind will ensure friendly and warm conditions in other regions.
Fog and clouds in the south and east
The weather will remain grey over the next few days in the southern and eastern regions, especially from East Tyrol to Carinthia and Burgenland. Compact cloud fields and thick fog will dominate here. Temperatures in these areas will mostly be between 10 and 15 degrees. For many, this will, therefore, remain rather cool and cloudy, which is typical for autumn.
Sunny foehn in foehn valleys and the Mostviertel region
The situation is completely different in the regions where the Föhn wind can fight against the high fog patches. The sun often shines, especially in the typical Föhn valleys, which stretch from the west to the Mostviertel. Temperatures can be much milder here, even reaching up to 25 degrees in places. However, the sunny weather will be accompanied by high cloud cover and, in some cases, Saharan dust, which could make the sky appear a little hazy. This layer of dust from the desert may cause the sun’s rays to be slightly weakened, but this will hardly affect temperatures.
Weather change at the weekend: Italian low brings rain
The weather is set to change on Saturday. An area of low pressure from Italy will gain influence, weakening the Föhn. In some regions, the Föhn will break down completely, and rain could be on the agenda instead of sunshine. Precipitation is to be expected in the south and west of the country, in particular. Despite this change in the weather, temperatures should only drop slightly.
Friendly autumn weather on Sunday and outlook for the fall holidays
The weather will show its better side again on Sunday. The low-pressure system will move away quickly, making way for friendlier fall weather. However, it remains uncertain whether a stable area of high pressure will be able to establish itself before the national holiday (October 26) and the subsequent autumn vacations. Such long-term forecasts are currently difficult to assess.
