VIENNA, 26 February 2025—The Philippines reiterated its strong support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the global initiative to end nuclear testing during the 64th Session of Working Group B of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), held from 18 to 28 February in Vienna.

Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative Evangelina A. Bernas emphasized the urgency of universalizing and bringing the CTBT into force, highlighting its significance as a key instrument in nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security.

As an active contributor to the CTBT’s verification system, the Philippines operates three International Monitoring System (IMS) stations in Tanay, Tagaytay, and Davao. These stations form a global network designed to detect nuclear explosions worldwide.

Working Group B, one of two CTBTO Preparatory Commission subsidiary bodies, focuses on verification-related matters. Meanwhile, the Philippines chairs Working Group A, responsible for budgetary and administrative issues.
