Internationally acclaimed Filipino artist will introduce participants to creative painting techniques at Loreleis Pan on October 17 and 18
VIENNA, Austria — Art enthusiasts and curious beginners will have the opportunity to explore unconventional painting techniques during two free workshops led by internationally acclaimed Filipino artist Elito Villaflor Circa, popularly known as Amangpintor, at Loreleis Pan in Vienna on October 17 and 18, 2026.
The workshops will feature two distinct artistic experiences: a Free Coffee Painting Workshop on Saturday, October 17, and a Hand and Fingers Painting Workshop on Sunday, October 18. Both sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Loreleis Pan, Sebastian-Kelch-Gasse 4, 1140 Vienna.
The events aim to introduce participants to creative ways of making art using unconventional techniques and accessible materials. Coffee painting explores the use of coffee as a natural pigment, while hand and finger painting encourages participants to discover artistic expression through direct contact with the painting surface.
According to the event poster, participation is free, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Amangpintor: A distinctive voice in Philippine art
Amangpintor is known internationally for his experimental approach to painting and his advocacy of Indigenouism Art, an artistic movement that promotes the use of indigenous and natural materials while drawing attention to cultural heritage and environmental awareness. His unconventional works have helped introduce Filipino artistic traditions and creative expression to audiences in the Philippines and abroad.
Born and raised in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, Circa developed his artistic skills as a child, drawing with charcoal and experimenting with colours derived from materials found in his surroundings. Growing up in a financially challenged family, he had limited access to conventional art supplies and formal art training. Instead, necessity encouraged him to experiment with alternative materials, laying the foundation for his distinctive artistic style. Support from World Vision’s child sponsorship programme also helped him pursue his education and develop his talent.
He became particularly well known for paintings incorporating his own blood and strands of human hair. For Circa, these materials carry a personal meaning connected to life, identity and the intimate relationship between an artist and a work of art. His practice challenges conventional ideas about what painting materials can be and how artistic expression can be achieved. <Cite refs={[“turn956409search7″,”turn956409search3”]}/>
International recognition and artistic achievements
Among Circa’s notable projects is A Thousand and One Lives, a collaborative artwork completed in 2015 with the participation of 99 teachers. The project involved the use of blood and hair in the painting process and was conceived as a collective work connecting people, their identities and future generations. Circa has also pursued ambitious painting projects associated with Guinness World Records submissions, reflecting his interest in pushing the boundaries of artistic practice.
In 2021, he and his family established the Amangpintor Art Museum in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, providing a place to showcase his work and share his artistic approach with visitors, including students and aspiring artists. His work and artistic journey have received international media attention, and he has continued to promote Philippine art through exhibitions, live demonstrations and workshops abroad.
In June 2026, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore welcomed Circa during his international cultural engagements, recognizing his contribution to promoting Philippine arts and heritage overseas. His activities included live painting demonstrations and workshops that introduced audiences to his distinctive techniques.
