Biontech/Pfizer’s Corona vaccine has nearly 91 percent efficacy in children, according to group data. According to a document Pfizer submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, protection against Covid-19 disease in five- to 11-year-olds is 90.7 percent. The data are based on a study of 2,250 participants. No severe disease progression was recorded.
Marketing authorization application also in the EU
An FDA expert panel will consider next Tuesday whether to approve the Biontech-Pfizer vaccine for five- to 12-year-olds. So far, the vaccine has had emergency approval in the U.S. from age twelve and full approval from age 16.
The U.S. government is already preparing a large-scale vaccination campaign for the approximately 28 million children between the ages of five and eleven. Biontech and Pfizer have also applied for approval of their Corona vaccine for this age group in the EU.
