The approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) of the Covid-19 vaccination for five- to 12-year-olds, which Pfizer applied for in mid-October, should be imminent. Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens), speaking at the government’s press conference on the lockdown for the unvaccinated today, assumed that could happen as early as Nov. 24. He did not give further details.

Officially, there is still no approval from the EMA for vaccination under the age of twelve. Therefore, younger children can only be vaccinated “off label” in Austria. Interested parents have to find a doctor who will vaccinate their offspring. Starting tomorrow, Vienna will have a vaccination line in operation for 200 “off label” vaccinations daily for the time being.

Also Medical Association President Thomas Szekeres had assumed on Sunday in the ORF “Press Hour” that an approval of the vaccination by the EMA will take place in the next few days.
