Seven new deaths linked to Covid-19 infection. Incidence again above 1,000.
After a new pandemic peak on Wednesday with over 17,000 new infections and nearly 16,000 new cases on yesterday, 16,822 new infections were registered in Austria from Thursday to Friday.
This is above the average of 12,814 over the past seven days, with the number of active cases rising to 117,790. In the past 24 hours, 629,414 new PCR tests were performed. This results in a positive rate of 2.67 percent. The seven-day incidence rate of 1,007.70 is the first increase above 1,000 since Nov. 27 of last year.
There are also seven new deaths associated with Covid-19 infection to report. Thus, the pandemic has claimed 13,905 lives in Austria so far.
There are currently 903 people in hospital, 14 more patients than the previous day. 228 people are being cared for in intensive care units, eight fewer than yesterday.
Vaccination
6.38 million Austrians, or 71.4 percent, had valid vaccination protection on Friday. More than four million people – exactly 4,006,363 – have received the third vaccination as of Thursday, completing the basic immunization of the Corona vaccine.
