Yesterday, nearly 60,000 new infections were registered in Austria after new (daily) highs had already been reported in the preceding days. Epidemiologist Eva Schernhammer, a member of the Gecko crisis team, said yesterday on ZiB2 that an increase in numbers was “predictable.”
Fifty-two thousand forty-five new cases were registered in Austria from Wednesday to Thursday within 24 hours. This is well above the average of 44,832 over the past seven days. Four hundred thirty-three thousand four hundred seven people in Austria are currently actively infected with the Coronavirus.
The seven-day incidence is 3,525.66. In the past 24 hours, 466,699 new PCR tests were performed. This gives a positive rate of 11.15 percent.
There are also 31 new deaths associated with Covid-19 infection to report. So far, the Coronavirus has claimed 15,320 lives in Austria.
Currently, 3,086 people are being treated in hospitals. That is 63 patients more than on Tuesday. There are now 211 patients in intensive care units, ten less than yesterday.
