Almost 42,000 newly infected and 43 dead in Austria

The number of new infections with the coronavirus remains high, with the health and interior ministries reporting 41,999 new illnesses on Saturday.

Forty-three patients died of or with covid 19 disease. The seven-day incidence was 3,487.2 per 100,000 population. More than 3,000 people with covid-19 were still in the hospital.

Forty-one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine new infections meant the second-highest figure recorded on this day of the week since the pandemic began, following the record high last Saturday. The average for the past seven days was 44,735 cases per day. The number of active topics increased by 4,549 from Friday to Saturday and stood at 449,799 infected people. In the past 24 hours, 37,407 patients have been reported as recovered. Since the pandemic’s start, 3,429,011 cases have been confirmed, of which 2,963,825 infected people have been declared recovered.

The number of covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours was 43, well above the average of 29.6 deaths per day over the past seven days. In the past week, 207 people have died from or with covid-19, bringing the death toll since the pandemic to 15,387.

The number of hospital patients with covid fell by 17 since Friday but remained above 3,000 at 3,031. Of those patients, 203 were treated in an intensive care unit, down by four from yesterday but up by 22 from a week ago.

The newest infections were in Lower Austria with 8,838, followed by Upper Austria with 7,485 and Vienna with 7,433. With 7,281 new conditions, Styria was also above 7,000, followed by Tyrol with 2,693, Carinthia with 2,372, Salzburg with 2,218, and Vorarlberg with 2,012. Burgenland registered 1,667 new infections.

Vaccinations continue to be scarce: on Friday, only 4,503 shots were administered, of which 359 were first-time vaccinations. Eight hundred five were second vaccinations, 3,339 third stings. According to the E-vaccination passport data, 6,811,014 people in Austria have received at least one vaccination. Six million two hundred twenty-seven thousand four hundred ninety-four people, and thus 69.3 percent of Austrians have proper vaccination protection.
