Mandatory PCR testing will be eliminated at schools starting in June. If there are cases in a class, antigen testing can still be done.
This step is in line with other actions taken by the federal government, Education Minister Martin Polaschek (ÖVP) stressed to APA. “Today, the last measure in the school can be canceled.”
The reason given for the discontinuation is the steady decline in the number of positive corona tests in recent weeks. HE SAID whether PCR tests would be conducted again at the start of school in the fall – for example, identifying infectious travelers returning to the country – will depend on the corona situation. “We are prepared for the fall. Schools will be ready for all scenarios,” Polaschek said.
Since Easter, schools have had mandatory PCR testing only once a week. There was a slight decline in infection numbers – about 1,350 tests hit in the previous week.
The school PCR tests will still be regularly in the coming week, then no longer in the week after Pentecost.
