Eight thousand eighty new Corona infections were reported in Austria on Monday. In the hospital, 1,697 people with Corona infection were treated. Seventy-one people had to be cared for in an intensive care unit.
Corona numbers continue to rise in all areas. Not only did infection numbers, active cases, and incidence continue to spike, but the number of hospital patients has also increased again. Since Friday – weekend hospitalization and testing figures will not be available for now – 187 people with SARS-CoV-2 infection joined other hospital patients, authorities reported Monday.
8,080 new Corona infections were reported Monday
As of Monday morning, 1,697 people with corona infection are in the hospital. Of those, 71 people require care in intensive care units. This number also increased by three since Sunday and has risen by five patients in one week. There has been one death since yesterday, with 23 deaths recorded in the past seven days. The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,758 lives in Austria since the outbreak.
A week ago, only 5,828 new Corona infections in Austria
On Sunday, 8,080 new infections were recorded in Austria. This is below the average of 11,867 new cases over the past seven days. However, a week ago, there were 5,828 new infections. Thus, the seven-day incidence also increased within one day from 893.7 cases to 920.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure puts Austria first in Europe in terms of incidence, ahead of Slovenia, Liechtenstein, and Germany. The number of actively infected people in Austria is also skyrocketing daily. Within 24 hours, there was an increase from 4,170 to 111,518 active cases.
The highest seven-day incidence of Corona is currently in Upper Austria
The province with the highest seven-day incidence in Upper Austria, with 1,148.4, followed by Tyrol, Salzburg, and Carinthia (1,052.1, 1,035.3, and 961.9, respectively). Next came Lower Austria (886.7), Styria (825.8), Vorarlberg (787.7), Vienna (786.6), and Burgenland (769).
1,458 Corona vaccinations were performed in Austria on Sunday
1,458 Corona vaccinations were completed on Sunday, and most – 1,298 stings – were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th, and each additional vaccine dose). 5,279,859 people, or 58.5 percent of Austrians, have been validly vaccinated as recommended by the National Immunization Panel (NIG). A total of 731,299 people have received a booster vaccination to date. The protection rate is highest in Burgenland, with 66 percent. In Lower Austria, 61.7 percent of the population has primary immunization, and in Styria, 60.1 percent. After Tyrol (56.9), Vienna (56.6), Carinthia (55.7), Vorarlberg (55.4), and Salzburg (54.8), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 54.2 percent.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have already been 5,162,934 confirmed cases in Austria. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, 5,030,658 people have recovered.
