After other countries in Europe, Great Britain is now also considering nationwide measures to combat the spread of the corona pandemic, according to a newspaper report. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering a national lockdown starting next Wednesday, according to The Times (Saturday).
The lockdown is to remain in force until at least 1 December. All non-essential businesses could be closed, while educational institutions would remain open. The island state has come under criticism in the past because there were no uniform measures for the entire country.
24,405 new infections and 274 deaths within one day
The new measures are still being discussed. A final decision has not been made, the paper writes, citing a high-ranking government source. The United Kingdom reported 24,405 new cases of Covid-19 and 274 deaths on Friday. This makes it one of the most affected countries in Europe.
