New Corona highs were reported Wednesday by the United States and Brazil. In the United States, 3,784 more Corona deaths and more than 250,000 new infections were counted within 24 hours, according to Johns Hopkins University. Brazil set a new record for new infections Wednesday with more than 70,000 cases and now counts more than seven million people sickened since the pandemic began.

In terms of absolute numbers, the U.S. is the country most affected by the pandemic in the world. In total, around 16.9 million cases have been recorded so far – out of a population of around 330 million. The death toll registered is around 307,000, and the U.S. launched a vaccination campaign on Monday following an emergency approval.

Brazil ranks second behind the U.S. in JHU statistics with nearly 184,000 corona deaths. A new daily increase record of 70,000 new cases was set Wednesday – and that’s without counting the state of Sao Paulo, which is considered the epicenter of the new wave. The 936 were the first time in three months that more than 900 Brazilians died from Covid-19, up from 183,735 since the pandemic began. The first wave in the summer mostly affected the poorer population, while the second wave is affecting wealthier Brazilians, according to epidemiologists.
