WHO reports record number of new corona cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) registered 183,020 new infections with the coronavirus on Sunday. This was the highest increase ever recorded within 24 hours. 116,000 of these new cases, or 63.4 percent, were in North and South America. According to the WHO, there have so far been over 8.7 million registered infections and over 461,000 deaths worldwide.

Brazil has been particularly  hit by the coronavirus. According to official corona virus-related data, the country has recorded more than one million cases and more than 50,000 deaths. According to the Ministry of Health, the number of deaths has risen by 641 to 50,617 within 24 hours. Another 17,459 infections bring the total number of confirmed cases to 1,085,038.
