The renowned US virologist Anthony Fauci has warned of a dramatic increase in coronavirus infection numbers after Thanksgiving. Due to the brisk travel activities around the most important US holiday, the spread of the coronavirus will most likely accelerate again, Fauci told CNN yesterday.
In two or three weeks, a sharp increase in the number of infections can be expected. “We don’t want to scare people, but this is the reality,” Fauci said.
Before Thanksgiving last Thursday, the CDC strongly discouraged the usual trips across the US to visit family members, but millions of US citizens did not let this stop them.
The United States is the most severely affected country in the world by the pandemic. In total, the United States has already recorded more than 13 million cases of coronavirus. More than 266,000 infected people died.
