Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) will be vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine currently under discussion from the manufacturer AstraZeneca. “I have a clear picture here,” Kurz said. “After there are many people who are worried, I will also get vaccinated with AstraZeneca to show that I have confidence in the vaccine,” the chancellor stressed Friday.
AstraZeneca is “used in many countries around the world.” Whether to be vaccinated is a highly personal decision that everyone must make for themselves, Kurz said. Several countries have suspended vaccination with AstraZeneca. Most recently, however, even as recently as Friday, the WHO had stressed that there was no reason for the suspension. There is “no evidence of a connection with blood clots,” the WHO announced. Austria also follows all experts and continues to vaccinate with AstraZeneca.
Of course, if there is a death or an incident, it would have to be reviewed. The reviews that have taken place in Austria so far show exactly “that there has been no causal link,” Kurz said. “I trust the experts”. He also reiterated that decisions on vaccination suspensions “can never be political, but must be made by experts.”
