The third wave in Hungary has again brought a peak number of CoV deaths. Thus, 272 people died in the past 24 hours in connection with the virus, bringing the death toll to 19,224. At the same time, 9,637 new infections were recorded. 11,760 people were hospitalized with CoV infection, and 1,467 required artificial respiration.

Chancellery Minister Gergely Gulyas said at a press conference in Budapest today that there could be no relaxation until at least 2.5 million citizens have been vaccinated. So far, 1.7 million have been vaccinated at least once. In this context, the minister mentioned April 12 and 19, respectively, when the opening of schools and kindergartens could take place.

The proposal of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to open stores again on the basis of “one customer per ten square meters” will be discussed. Prime Minister Viktor Orban would announce the decision and further steps tomorrow on the radio. According to Gulyas, the health service will be able to withstand the increased pressure. There would still be 1,678 intensive care beds with ventilators available.
