Starting July 1, pharmacies will offer free Corona self-tests for children as young as 10. At the same time, only children 12 and older will need to show 3G proof.
From July 1, the free self-tests, which can be picked up at pharmacies, will also be available for children over ten. Each month, they will be able to obtain ten tests free of charge. The regulation is decided on Thursday in the National Council, communicated the Ministry of Health and the Chamber of Pharmacists on Tuesday in a dispatch.
“For families, tests are available in the summer vacations. The living room tests are valid for 24 hours,” said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens). The new regulation gives “children and young people more freedom with a view to the upcoming summer vacations,” said Ulrike Mursch-Edlmayr, president of the Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists.
As before, the self-tests are permitted as an entry test (3G detection) in Austria if they have been verified online. After the test result has been confirmed online, one receives a valid QR code via SMS or e-mail. As of July 1, the age limit for 3G proof is to be increased to twelve years. However, for receiving a valid QR code according to the concept of the Green Passport on the EU level, the living room tests are not valid, he said.
