As of July 1, Austria will continue to relax. Accordingly, the Ministry of Health presented the 2nd COVID-19 opening regulation on Monday. As announced in advance, from July 1 there will be no more curfew under the Corona regulations, also the mask requirement will be relaxed or lifted. In addition, the minimum distance of one meter and the square meter restrictions will be dropped.
Everywhere where the 3-G proofs apply, the mask requirement will basically be omitted as of July 1. However, there are exceptions for old people’s and nursing homes as well as health care facilities – here, however, the simple mouth-nose protection can be worn instead of an FFP2 mask.
From July 1, the obligation to wear at least one MNS will also apply in enclosed spaces, such as public transport and its stations, cabs, in customer areas or at workplaces with customer contact (such as hairdressers).
Then, at the end of next month, further relaxations could come with regard to the mask requirement. Starting from 22 July could come – depending upon development of the infection happening – a general end for the mask obligation in the public transport and in the trade. At least that was the announcement made by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) a few days ago.
However, the idea has not found favor with Vienna’s city leader Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). He would prefer to exercise caution in view of the spreading delta variant.
According to the newspaper “Standard,” it was not initially known whether he would ultimately support all of the relaxation measures for Vienna as well. A thorn in Ludwig’s side, however, is in particular the considered end of the mask obligation in trade and public transport.
➤ The mayor therefore wants to “insist on continuing to wear masks indoors,” the city leader is quoted as saying by the “Standard.” Likewise, the masks are to be retained in public transport.
Furthermore, it is said that Ludwig has announced a round with experts on Wednesday. During the consultations, the federal relaxations and the spread of the Delta mutation are to be discussed. Ludwig did not reveal further details on this, saying he “does not want to anticipate” the talks, according to the “Standard”.
