The Corona situation in Austria has been stable at a good level for days. The average of new infections yesterday was 67, the seven-day incidence was 5.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. No further deaths were reported yesterday.
But: the delta variant is on the rise and is becoming the dominant variant in Austria. “Despite the easing that has taken place, we must not believe that the fight against the virus has already been won,” warns Thomas Szekeres, president of the Austrian Medical Association, for example.
The crucial thing now is to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible. The problem is that Austria currently has more vaccine than people willing to give up their upper arms for it. The provinces are therefore focusing on low-threshold vaccination offers, trying to remove as many registration hurdles as possible and making it as easy as possible for people to be vaccinated.
Spontaneous vaccinations without pre-registration, such as in Vienna (vaccination box at the Rathauplatz) and Tyrol (“Vaccination Sunday”), are in high demand.
In any case, 75 new infections were registered in Austria from yesterday to today. Once again, no deaths were reported.
So far there have been 650,737 positive test results in Austria. As of today, 10,709 people across Austria have died as a result of the Corona virus and 638,319 have recovered. Currently, 132 people are undergoing hospital treatment due to the corona virus. Of these, 44 are being cared for in intensive care units.
