The new 2-G-plus rule and the extension of the mask requirement come into force on Friday.

It almost seems as if Michael Ludwig already wants to prepare the Viennese population for further tightening: He does not want to rule out another lockdown, as he stressed once again on Wednesday. “I don’t want to get into the situation like other federal states,” the mayor said on the sidelines of a media appointment. “We have to focus on the health of the population. If necessary, we as a city will also take further steps.”

On Friday, the new Viennese Corona Ordinance comes into force.
In the federal capital, night clubs and events for 25 or more people may only be visited if vaccinated or recovered persons also show a PCR test result. In the future, 2Gplus will apply to larger events in the sports and cultural sector, for example.

According to Austrian Press Agency, an antigen test may also be sufficient in exceptional cases, for example if a PCR test was demonstrably not available. Also, if the test was not evaluated in a timely manner, a rapid test may apply. In addition, the requirement does not apply if a covid illness has been survived within the past 40 days.

Extension of FFP2 mask requirement comes to Vienna
The FFP2 mask obligation will also be extended, namely to all non-private indoor spaces. In the catering trade, guests will again have to reach for a mask when they go to their seats or to the toilet. This applies to staff in general – including those in the retail sector and service providers close to the body.

In terms of the workplace, it is stated that employees or owners must wear an FFP2 mask when entering places of occupational activity in enclosed spaces. This applies “if physical contact with other persons cannot be ruled out and the risk of infection is not minimized by other measures.”
