From 5,840 on Tuesday to 8,955 on Wednesday! Corona numbers skyrocket by over 3,000 cases in Vienna! The increase is also significant nationwide.
In the past 24 hours, 47,795 new infections and 42 deaths were reported across Austria. There have never been such high numbers of cases! “The frontrunners are Lower Austria with 11,216 and Upper Austria with 9,007 new points. But already in third place in Vienna, with 8,955 new corona cases as of Wednesday, despite its continuing stricter corona rules.
As of Wednesday, 9 March, 617,677 positive tests have been confirmed in Vienna since the pandemic. Five hundred thirty-five thousand six hundred ninety-eight people have recovered. With the addition of 8,955 new cases, the federal capital now has 78,867 active patients. The number of deaths linked to the virus is already 3,112, with seven people having died from or with the virus from Tuesday to Wednesday.
And this dismal record does not seem to be the end of the line. In its report, the expert commission on compulsory vaccination expects a new Corona wave in the autumn – and a lockdown cannot be ruled out either.
“Lifting the protective measures was a mistake. This is exactly the development I have always warned against!” Vienna’s mayor spoke out on Wednesday. And he makes it clear: “We will continue to follow the consistent path.”
But there is also positive news: As the Vienna Health Association announced via Twitter, the number of patients suffering from Corona in the city’s hospitals is declining: 44 people are currently being cared for in intensive care units, four fewer than on Tuesday. Seventeen have already recovered from the disease but need further intensive care. Four hundred seventy-one people are being cared for in regular wards, ten less than Tuesday. Sixty-nine of them are considered recovered but still need hospital medical care.
