A lottery prize of 1.34 billion dollars (equivalent to 1.31 billion euros) awaits a single winner in the USA. The winning ticket holder, which cost two dollars to buy, got all six numbers right in Friday’s draw. Lottery organizers said Saturday that the winning ticket for the Mega Jackpot had been sold in Illinois. It was not yet known who had won.
The $1.34 billion is the second-largest jackpot in the lottery’s 20-year history. It is surpassed only by a win of about $1.5 billion in 2018.
The winner can choose between a lump sum payment or a payout over 30 years. Most winners opt for the lump sum, but according to lottery operators, it comes with a heavy tax burden.
