The Verein Filipina in Österreich, a member of Babaylan Europe, held its induction ceremonies at the Philippine Embassy Hall in Vienna, Austria. The event took place on January 12, 2024.
The Philippine Ambassador to Austria, Evangeline Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas, inducted the newly-elected officers led by its president, Jomari Somera.
The new president of the group was so fascinated by the dedication of the members of the Verein, and this was why she accepted the position.
“I’ve been a member of the Verein Filipina in Austria for quite some time now. I appreciate what they are doing very much. They offer their time and effort to fellow Filipinos who are distressed, oppressed, and suppressed. And so I was urged to join the group. I saw these ladies’ sincerity, selflessness, and unconditional humanitarian services. They work behind the scenes, not bothering whether anyone will recognize them. As a nurse, I used to support my patients in healing themselves, mind, body, and soul, with tender, loving care, though I was paid for the job. But these ladies who gave their free time are sacrificing their time. So I thought, I want to belong to this group. This is why I accepted the position as group president,” Jomari explained.
Ambassador Arroyo-Bernas expressed her gratitude for the services rendered by the Verein Filipina in Austria.
“Congratulations to our lovely ladies. You started this group during the pandemic, but you’ve been able to do so much. We are ready to partner with you, whether in information campaigns or having more orientations. The embassy would encourage you to partner with Austrian agencies that deal with these situations. So, again, thank you very much for all that you do,” the ambassador said.
Ms. Renate Amesbauer, President of the Women’s Federation for World Peace (Austria), was also one of the guests during the induction program. Amesbauer thanked the Filipino group for having the Women’s Federation as its partner organization.
“We are very grateful for your contribution; some may not have been nurses but are working in other professions. Thank you for all you do for our country,” Amesbauer said.
