Frozen food is becoming increasingly popular. However, frozen food does not have the best reputation. The widespread assumption is that frozen products are unhealthy and contain no vitamins and minerals. But what is true about these prejudices?
This is how healthy frozen food is
Freezing is one of the best ways to preserve food. However, not all frozen foods are the same. Some frozen-ready meals are highly industrially processed and contain many calories, fats, and flavour enhancers. It is, therefore, better to steer clear of frozen pizza, lasagne, chips, and the like. However, frozen food in the form of fruit, vegetables, fish or meat is a very healthy alternative.
The rapid freezing process preserves vitamins and minerals. Frozen fruit and vegetables often have even more nutrients than fresh produce stored at room temperature for several days. Heat, light, and oxygen destroy the vitamins. When frozen, 80 percent of the vitamins and nutrients are still present after a year.

Frozen food is well-tolerated
Frozen food also has many advantages for our digestion. The bloating effect of vegetables that are difficult to digest, such as pulses and cabbage, is reduced. In addition, preservatives can be avoided without affecting the shelf life.

Defrost frozen food correctly
Frozen products should be defrosted properly before consumption to avoid salmonella and the loss of nutrients. Meat products, in particular, can spoil easily at room temperature. For this reason, frozen food should always be defrosted in the refrigerator. Using a draining rack is also a good idea so the food does not draw moisture from the defrosting water and possibly collect salmonella. Once defrosted, the food should not end up in the freezer again.
