The harmonious melodies of the Lasallian Youth Orchestra (LYO) from De La Salle University (DLSU) in Manila echoed through the halls of Bratislava, Slovakia, as they claimed the gold medal at the prestigious 9th International Youth Music Festival II.
With a dazzling performance that captivated the audience and judges alike, the LYO showcased their talent and passion for music on a global stage. On 24th July 2024, the LYO mesmerized the crowd with a stellar performance that earned them a remarkable score of 92 points, securing their well-deserved victory. Their repertoire included a blend of classical masterpieces and heartfelt Filipino compositions, creating a unique and captivating musical experience for all in attendance.
One of the highlights of their performance was Josef Suk’s “Serenade for Strings in E flat Major, Op. 6,” a piece known for its lush harmonies and intricate melodies that perfectly showcased the orchestra’s technical prowess and artistic sensitivity. The LYO also enchanted the audience with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, IV. Rondo (Allegro),” a lively and exuberant composition demonstrating their dynamic range and vibrant energy on stage. In a touching tribute to their Filipino heritage, the LYO performed a medley of beloved Filipino compositions titled “Mga Awit ng Pag-ibig” by renowned Filipino composers Constancio De Guzman, Leopoldo Silos, Ernani Cuenco, and Lucio San Pedro.
Through this medley, the orchestra showcased their musical versatility and shared the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines with the international audience, receiving accolades for their heartfelt interpretation and emotional depth.
