27. August 2024 – On the second day of our cycling tour, we embarked on a journey that took us from Gasthof Oberwirt in Ebbs, Tyrol, to the charming town of Aschau am Inn. This day was filled with scenic landscapes, unexpected detours, and delightful stops that added a touch of adventure to our planned 80-kilometer ride, which ultimately stretched to 95 kilometers.
Crossing Borders and Navigating the Inn River
We set off early in the morning, eager to explore the picturesque routes that awaited us. Our journey began with a smooth ride out of Ebbs, taking us across the border into Germany. The cool morning air and the serene surroundings made for a perfect start as we cycled along the well-marked paths.
As we followed the course of the Inn River, the terrain started to change. The narrow, stony paths that snaked along the riverbanks presented a bit of a challenge, but they also offered us some of the most beautiful views of the day. The rushing waters of the Inn beside us, the lush greenery, and the occasional sound of birds made this part of the ride both invigorating and peaceful.
A Pleasant Pause in Rosenheim
Our first significant stop was in the Bavarian town of Rosenheim, where we took a well-deserved coffee break. Rosenheim, with its charming town center, provided the perfect backdrop for a moment of rest. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as we sat down to relax and recharge. This break not only gave us a chance to savor the local flavors but also allowed us to soak in the town’s vibrant atmosphere.
Unexpected Detours and Discoveries
Continuing on from Rosenheim, we encountered the first of several detours. Some of the bicycle routes that we had planned to take were unexpectedly closed, forcing us to find alternative paths. While these detours added extra kilometers to our journey, they also led us through some unexpected yet delightful areas. We found ourselves cycling through quaint villages and along scenic backroads that we might have otherwise missed.
These detours, though unplanned, were a reminder of the unpredictability of travel and the joys of discovering new places. Despite the added distance, our spirits remained high as we continued our ride through the ever-changing landscapes of Bavaria.
A Sweet Stop in Wasserburg
As the afternoon sun began to warm the day, we made another stop, this time in the historic town of Wasserburg am Inn. Known for its unique location on a peninsula surrounded by the Inn River, Wasserburg offered a perfect spot to indulge in a sweet treat. We enjoyed delicious ice cream as we strolled through the town’s narrow streets, admiring the medieval architecture and the vibrant riverfront.
This pause in Wasserburg was more than just a break; it was an opportunity to experience the town’s rich history and charm. The refreshing ice cream, coupled with the stunning views, made this stop one of the highlights of the day.
The Final Stretch to Aschau am Inn
With our energy renewed, we set off on the final leg of our journey to Aschau am Inn. The additional kilometers from our detours were starting to make themselves felt, but the thought of reaching our destination kept us motivated. The path led us through more beautiful countryside, with the Inn River continuing to guide our way.
As we approached Aschau am Inn, the sun began to dip towards the horizon, casting a golden glow over the landscape. We arrived at our destination, tired but satisfied, having completed 95 kilometers of cycling that day. The sense of accomplishment was palpable as we looked back on the day’s challenges and rewards.
Looking Forward to the Next Day
Our arrival in Aschau am Inn marked the end of another successful day of cycling. Despite the unexpected detours and the longer-than-anticipated distance, we were grateful for the experiences and the memories we had made along the way. As we settled in for the night, we couldn’t help but feel excited about the next leg of our journey—from Aschau am Inn to Simbach am Inn. The adventures of the day had only deepened our appreciation for the beauty and unpredictability of a bicycle tour, and we were eager to see what the next day would bring.
In conclusion, our second day was a testament to the joys of cycling tours—where the journey, with all its surprises, is as rewarding as the destination.
