Numerous warnings are currently circulating on Facebook. It’s about a scam involving apartments. This is how the trick works.
Facebook groups warn people about a new scam being used to scam people looking for an apartment. The perpetrators have other people view apartments that they themselves have booked at short notice via platforms. They then apparently demand a furniture deposit or a deposit.
The internet tip is: “Please check whether the apartments have a key box.” If so, you shouldn’t pay anything.“ Please spread the word to anyone you know who is currently looking for an apartment so that they don’t fall in!!!” the post continues.
Fraud investigator Gerhard Sakoparnig from the State Office of Criminal Investigation said that the authorities are unaware of any increase in cases.
Such scams usually don’t work long because the perpetrators must appear in person. “You quickly have a personal description.”.
However, the run-up to Christmas is generally the peak season because many parcels are on their way, and people spend more money.
As reported, fake text messages from the post office, for example, refer to (false) postal internet addresses. These should not be opened under any circumstances. Of course, fake stores are very popular before Christmas. Customers should, therefore, be particularly careful when buying online.
