Additional tightening on Corona measures announced in Vienna will come into effect at the end of this week, Mayor Michael Ludwig has announced.
Vienna tightens up on 2G+
This was announced by Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) on Monday at the presentation of the children’s vaccination road. Part of the package is about the 2Gplus regulation. In the federal capital, in the future, for example, night catering establishments and events for 25 or more people may only be visited if vaccinated or recovered persons also present a PCR test result.

New Viennese package of measures to come into force at the end of the week
Ludwig reported that lawyers are currently working on the ordinance, which will be based on the one issued by the federal government. It has not yet been fixed when exactly the package of measures will come into force. According to reports, this could take place on Thursday. In the future, 2Gplus will apply, for example, to larger events in the sports and cultural sectors.

In Vienna, the FFP2 mask requirement will also be extended to all non-private indoor areas. In restaurants, too, guests will again have to wear masks when going to their seats or to the toilet. For the personnel this applies generally – also for those in the trade and with body near service providers.

The third stitch is already offered since the weekend earlier. In Vienna, it can now be collected four months after the second partial vaccination – and not only after six months. Previously, this was only possible for those who had previously been vaccinated with Astra-Zeneca – and only after consultation with the vaccinators. Incidentally, people who received their initial vaccination with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can receive the booster portion as early as 28 days later.

Mayor Ludwig convinced of strict Viennese approach
Vienna has been applying stricter rules than the federal government for weeks. This way has proven itself, Mayor Ludwig is once again convinced today. Vienna could, so physician chamber president Thomas Szekeres today found, could be also model for other Lands of the Federal Republic.

At the media event, Ludwig was skeptical about the issue of mandatory vaccination for health care professionals. After all, he said, there are also people in the nursing and health care sector who do not get vaccinated. “I think that’s a mistake, but that’s the way it is.” There would be a risk that people would “change their career orientation” if the requirement were in place. “That has to be weighed,” Ludwig said. He advocated involving the social partners on the issue.

The mayor would not comment on a possible nighttime curfew. “I do not participate in speculation,” he stressed. However, the goal remains to prevent a new general lockdown, Ludwig said.
