Next vaccination on the way: the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is starting a rolling review of the vaccine from Chinese developer Sinovac for effectiveness, safety and quality, the agency reports.
The vaccine contains dead SARS CoV-2 virus, which is inactive and cannot cause the disease. The Covid-19 vaccine (Vero Cell) also contains an “adjuvant,” a substance that boosts the immune response to the vaccine.
When a person receives the vaccine, his or her immune system identifies the inactivated virus as foreign and makes antibodies against it. When the vaccinated person later comes into contact with SARS-CoV-2, the immune system recognizes the virus and is ready to defend the body against it.
Based on the evaluation, a decision is made whether to make a formal request for approval.
