FC Bayern has reached its goal and has secured the German championship for the 30th time – for the eighth time en suite. David Alaba and Co. won 1:0 on Tuesday at the relegation-threatened Werder Bremen of Marco Friedl and with a ten-point lead over Borussia Dortmund before the last two rounds, they cannot be pushed from first place. Alaba rose to become the German record champion.

Just like for Thomas Müller, it is the ninth triumph for the ÖFB team star in the German House of Lords, the two of them drawing level with the previous leader Franck Ribery. To achieve this would be an “incredible milestone”, Alaba had said at the beginning of the week. The Viennese also broke another record in the empty Weser Stadium: with his 265th Bundesliga match, he replaced Andreas Herzog as the previous Austrian record player in the German House of Lords.

Robert Lewandowski scored the decisive goal for the dull Bavarians in the 43rd minute with his 46th compulsory goal of the season. “This is very special. Celebrating without fans is a bit complicated. The mood and passion of the fans is missing. But we are happy that we are German champions. It was a long fight,” said the match winner to “Sky”.

In the final phase, the Bavarians had to concede the narrow lead after a yellow-red card for youngster Alphonso Davies (79th) due to repeated foul play in a tie. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer prevented the equaliser with a parry after a header from Yuya Osako just before the end. So the title was fixed, which is also the first for coach Hansi Flick.
