Day of the sad records: On Saturday, three records were surprising.
The situation is becoming increasingly dramatic: On Saturday, the authorities reported 3,614 new corona infections within 24 hours. This is a new negative record.
Compared to the previous day, this is an increase of 41 %, in absolute figures it is +1,043. In comparison: On the worst day of the first wave, March 26, there were “only” 1,050 new infections.
The next sad record: for the first time, there are more than 20,000 actively ill people in Austria. The hospitals could also soon become crowded (see right).
1,000 deaths
The situation is worst in Vienna: 970 cases are reported by the ministries (record). Upper Austria reports 662 infections.
With concern the death figures are also analyzed. Next week we will probably cross the border of 1,000 victims. At the moment there are 978 deaths.
Number dispute. In the background this week there is again a dispute about the numbers. The city of Vienna presented significantly fewer cases than the ministries. According to the city, there were only 777 infections from Friday to Saturday (not 970), but the Friday figures were subsequently corrected upwards. Similarly in Lower Austria: Not 715 (according to the ministry) were correct, but only 477.
No matter who is right: There have never been so many infections as in these 24 hours.
