Protective measures to contain the coronavirus are being rolled back in Austria. As announced by the federal government on Thursday, night gastronomy can reopen in compliance with the “3-G rule”. Mask rules for commerce and gastronomy will also be relaxed.

After long months of the Corona lockdown, almost normal everyday life is slowly returning. This is made possible by the good development of infection figures in the country, as well as the increasing progress of the vaccination campaign. With the beginning of July, almost all the restrictions that were still in place – such as from major events, birthday parties, etc. – will fall.

However, with the new requirement of proof of being “tested, recovered, vaccinated.” There are no longer any upper audience limits or capacity restrictions.

Mask requirements significantly relaxed
Dancing and drinking at the bar in clubs and discos will then be possible again with the new regulation from July 1 – from this date, the previously valid closing time will be dropped and the venues will be allowed to admit up to 75 percent of the normal visitor capacity. Also relaxed are the mask requirements: Since June 10, the FFP2 requirement has already been obsolete outdoors (i.e. at bus stops, markets, etc.), but it remained indoors, including in retail, public transport and catering.

Thus, in the catering industry, the mask obligation is generally dropped – in public transport, in closed public places, in trade and museums, mouth-nose protection may be worn instead of the FFP2 mask. The FFP2 mask obligation remains only in nursing homes and hospitals. The indoor mask obligation is dropped at all events – only the “3G” proof remains obligatory. And there is a notification requirement for 100 people or more and a permit requirement for 500 people or more.

“3-G rule” remains in force everywhere
The so-called 3-G rule will remain in place wherever it already applies, the chancellor said.

There is also an important innovation in the matter of mandatory testing for children: at the age of under twelve years, the mandatory testing for this group will be dropped in the summer (effective date July 1).

Further openings dependent on vaccination success
On July 22, the last restrictions in the country could then also fall, as the chancellor announced. At the same time, the registration requirement in the catering industry should then also be dropped. To make this possible, however, a good vaccine would be necessary as a basis for decision-making. Kurz therefore appealed once again to actually take advantage of the vaccination offer and thus protect not only oneself but also others.
