The 28-year-old Viennese (with Filipino background) threw Jonny Clayton, one of the favorites for the title, out of the tournament.
One of the most important tournaments in the darts world began on Saturday evening in Blackpool, England. The World Matchplay. An Austrian is also taking part – not Mensur Suljovic, but Rowby-John Rodriguez. And he caused a sensation right from the start: The 28-year-old Viennese had to deal with the current number eight in the PDC ranking, Jonny Clayton. The Welshman was considered one of the favorites, but Rodriguez won 10:7 and will now meet the next top player in round two: Dimitri Van den Bergh.
The Viennese proved again that he had been in top form the last weeks. Also progressing are world champion Peter Wright (10:4 against Razma) and Krzysztof Ratajski (10:6 against Bunting).
