More than 4,700 new Corona infections have occurred in Austria (Aug. 21, 9:30 a.m.). The number of new infections reported for Vienna on Sunday was 1,488.
According to a release from the Interior Ministry, Vienna is the only province in Austria above the 1,000 mark in terms of new Corona infections.

The number of Covid-19 sufferers requiring hospital beds and inpatient care continues to fall. On Sunday, one hundred sixty people infected with the coronavirus were in domestic hospitals. That was down 28 from the previous day and still down 89 from a week ago Sunday. In the intensive care unit (ICU), 66 covid patients required care, down by eight from a week ago.
More than 4,700 new Corona infections in Austria
Within 24 hours, 4,735 new infections with SARS-CoV-2 were recorded, the ministries reported. This was virtually at a similar level as the previous Sunday (4,731) and below the average of the past seven days (5,247). However, this figure says little, as testing for Corona has become a fringe phenomenon. In the past 24 hours, 46,522 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported. Of these, 44,412 were meaningful PCR tests, and the positive rate was 10.7 percent.
Seventy-one thousand nine hundred twenty active Corona cases in Austria.
The current seven-day incidence is 406.8 cases per 100,000 population. As of Sunday, there were 71,920 active cases in Austria, up 451 from the previous day. Four more coronavirus-related deaths have been added since Saturday. In the past seven days, 68 deaths have been registered. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has officially claimed 19,342 lives in Austria since the outbreak, with 20,568 Covid deaths already showing up on the AGES dashboard as of Saturday afternoon.
2,601 Corona vaccinations were given Saturday
Two thousand six hundred one vaccinations against Covid-19 were administered on Saturday, of which 1,933 were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th, and each subsequent dose). Five million three hundred thirty-four thousand nine hundred seventy-seven people, or 59.1 percent of Austrians, have been vaccinated as the National Immunization Panel (NIG) recommended. A total of 426,149 people have received booster vaccinations to date.
The province with the highest seven-day incidence is Vienna with 595.8, followed by Lower Austria, Carinthia, and Salzburg (477.6, 441.9, and 332.1, respectively). Burgenland (320.5), Styria (315.6), Upper Austria (311.5), Tyrol (254) and Vorarlberg (244) follow.
