Austria is facing another phase of unsettled weather. Experts warn of new thunderstorm cells that could cause considerable rain in the coming days, especially in some federal states. Heavy rainfall is to be expected along the northern side of the Alps in particular. This weather situation is not expected to stabilize until the middle of the week.
Medium-term forecast
The weather situation is not expected to stabilize until the middle of the week. However, it will remain unsettled in the mountains. A strong westerly current will establish itself by the weekend, which could calm the weather somewhat. The weekly forecast in detail:
Tuesday: Transition to friendlier weather
Tuesday will begin with rain from the Waldviertel to Burgenland, which will quickly subside in the morning. Afterwards, the sun will shine at times. However, spring clouds and further showers will quickly form, especially over the western and southern mountains. A friendly mix of sun and clouds will prevail at Lake Constance, in the Danube region, and later in the east. Temperatures will rise to 19 to 25 degrees with a moderate north-westerly wind.
Wednesday: Slightly calmer weather
On Wednesday, a few patches of cloud will pass through on the northern side of the Alps, which will mostly remain harmless. Local showers will develop in the mountains and south after an often sunny start, with isolated thunderstorms possible. The wind will blow weakly to moderately on the northern side of the Alps, briskly from westerly directions. Temperatures between 20 and 26 degrees.
Thursday: Changeable with thunderstorms
On Thursday, isolated showers will move through the northern Alps in the morning. Local thunderstorms will develop in the mountains and the south during the course of the day. However, the sun will shine at times, especially in the north-east. Most of the clouds will remain in the eastern mountains. Moderate, occasionally brisk winds from the west to northwest will blow in the Danube region and the east. Highs will be between 20 and 26 degrees.
